A country road.

A sapling. A stump.
Mid-afternoon.

Vladmir walks in from stage right. Estragon walks in from stage left.
Vladmir is the first to spot Estragon, and quickly looks away. Estragon thinks he has spotted Vladmir first, glances at him for a while, and then looks away.
They continue to stare in opposite directions, stealing glances when the other is not looking, until they are a few feet in front of each other.
Estragon catches Vladmir looking at him. Vladmir opens his eyes wide in surprise and gives an uncertain, possibly insincere, smile. Estragon returns the smile and tries to hug Vladmir, who had

It's not too laterunning,

#SixWordStories' 'Around the World in 80 Days' Contest.

I just happened to be looking through deviantArt again, and the contest happened to catch my eye. I initially didn't process the fact that humor had to be involved, and so my entry for that would have been:

I'd rather stop
and smell
roses.

But of course, not all flowers smell equally, particularly the carrion flower (of South America, I believe), and though the explorer may be tempted to stop to enjoy the scenery, they would quickly be overpowered by that nauseating scent.

Traveling around the world in 80 days, to me, is a fascinating concept, but at the same time, I can't help but feel that doing so would be superficial, as you wouldn't have the time to "stop and smell the roses" (both the sweet and the foul), and really enjoy the non-touristic culture of the different places that you would visit. It's like driving through a park; there's no point in seeing it if you don't experience it.

Ha!

I wonder if they happened upon some flowers that smell of rotting flesh to attract flies. I like how some cavernous plants do that.. it's so cool.
